Waiting

in great anticipation for-

-my wedding photos to be done. I stalk the photographer's site every day, because she usually puts up sneak-peeks on her blog. still no photos :(
-to find out if Mitch got the Pell Grant. dying to know this one. really there's no reason why we shouldn't get it. we're definitely poor enough.
-to hear from my boss how much my school/work schedule is going to suck this semester.
-for my seedlings to grow. pansies and sweet peas :)
-to get my insurance card in the mail so I can go get my car inspected...it expires in one week.
-for Mitch's birthday present to get here from Asia. Singapore, don't bail on me now!
-to get a letter in the mail with my name on it so I can "prove" I'm a Utah resident so I can apply for a Utah DL. oh the joys of changing your name...which brings me to the last thing-
-BYU to officially change my name and marital status so that I can apply for the married health insurance so I can stay enrolled in my classes.

have I mentioned how much I hate waiting?

Wedding, Honeymoon, Reception.

For the faint of heart, you may want to stop while you're ahead. This is a long post.

The actual day of the wedding went so smoothly, it was perfect in every way. I woke up a little early to finish packing my stuff at grandma's to take back to my apartment, and then started getting ready. I had forgotten to bring another dress with me from the apartment, so I ended up wearing a pretty casual dress that I had left at grandma's. Oh well. Then Mitch and his dad stopped by so Mitch could get dressed in his suit, and we left with my mom together for the temple!

Our sealer was pretty intimidating, not gonna lie...basically an Elder Holland figure. Add to that the advice from people to pay attention to the advice he gives you, and I was scared I would miss something, so I stared at him the whole time, hanging onto his every word, afraid to appear like I didn't care what he was saying. He also was almost interrogating us, and had Mitch quote a few scriptures form memory on the spot. Like I said, kind of intimidating. But he gave us lots of great advice. Really really insightful, and the second night of our honeymoon, me and Mitch sat down to type it all out before we forgot it. His main mantra was "You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving." Amen. He also told us how important it we had sufficient love to be married today, but it's not enough for tomorrow. You have to keep that love growing every single day, it's a full time job, and it won't happen on its own, you have to work at it.

After the sealing everyone was allowed to come up and give you a hug and congratulate you. It meant soo much to both of us that all our families were able to be there.

After that we got to go change into our "wedding" clothes. I had so much fun, even though it only took me 20 minutes to get ready, and I ended up waiting the rest of the time. Then I got my bouquet, and we walked outside, hand-in-hand, to everyone flashing pictures and staring at us. It was a little awkward haha.

Like I said, awkward.

Then we just hugged more people, and tried to establish order so that the photographer could get a group shot. Then ensued 2+ hours of picture-taking, which actually wasn't that bad. I had a lot of fun, and Mitch even said it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. I think it helped that our photographer was so fun, and tried to make it fun for everyone else. From there we went straight to the dinner, and we were even a little late, so everyone was waiting for us. Holy cow there were so many people! It was pretty strange to have to walk through this huge hall with everyone clapping and staring at you. We made our way to the head table, and then my dad conducted the program. Both dads gave little speeches, and then we started eating! We made our way around trying to talk to everyone, but we only got about 1/4 of the way around the room when the rest of the program started.

both of the loves of my life! :D

mckinney bffs!!!

For the program, Sophie played "Families can be together forever" on her violin, and Carly sang "At last". Then me and Mitch had to give a little thank you speech (normally I'm good at speaking but for the life of me I don't know what came out of my mouth during that spiel. I know I sounded like an idiot, but oh well. It's my day, I do what I want :D)

After that we mingled with people until most everyone had left. Then my dad came up to me and gave me a piece of paper that Davey had asked him to give to us. On it was a picture of Davey's face with the caption "Founder of this union 2009" Ahahahahhaa. leave it to davey. I saved it and it will definitely be going into our scrapbook. Also everyone spent forever looking for our cars to mutilate. Luckily Mitch hid my car in a neighborhood not far from the stake center we had the dinner at. We knew they were frantically trying to find our car, so we decided to take our leave. Also I was just really tired and was tired of smiling, so I was happy to leave haha. We got to our car, and Zach and Tyler and Danny had found it and decorated it tastefully, for which I was very grateful.

Then we drove home, and it was finally starting to sink in that we were married. Driving home was the first moment alone we had since the ceremony, and it was bizarre that we were actually married. It was such an exciting feeling to look over at him and know that he was my husband forever!!

When we got back to our apartment, it had been decorated for our honeymoon!! Paul and Amy had left a trail of rose petals to the bed, with a whole bunch of hilarious signs and treats on the bed. It was so sweet of them, and hilarious. Thanks guys!

We woke up pretty late the next morning, and realized we hadn't even packed yet for our honeymoon, and we should have already left hahaha. We packed and ran a couple errands and then took off for california! It was a pretty uneventful drive, luckily, although we did almost run out of gas and mitch was really glad I insisted on backtracking 20 miles to get gas in the middle of the desert, when after that we didn't run into another gas station for two hours.

California was so fun. We didn't do a whole lot, but neither of us had been on vacation in a while so it was so nice to just get away. We ate out a lot, and hung out at the beach a lot, did some shopping, and pretty much just vegged. The highlight of the trip was having dinner with katherine and cory, and then going to ride on the ferris wheel on the pier. It was kind of a bummer, we only had a disposable camera for about half the trip, so the pictures of the ferris wheel didn't turn out, but oh well. These are the two pictures from the disposable camera that did turn out. kind of.

a liiiittle sunburned. overall we did good though...no third degree burns haha.

wuv. twue wuv.

On the drive back to UT we almost got run off the road by a semi, no big deal. Then we got back home and had to fly out the next morning at 8 am to texas for the reception. We had so so much fun in Texas. Mitch's family drove up for the reception so we were able to hang out a lot with them some more and it was just so relaxed and fun. The reception went well- the decorations and food turned out great!

It also meant so much to me that all my friends from high school drove from all over to come to it!! I was so touched that they cared enough to do that for me.

It all flew by, and we were so sad to leave our families. Saying goodbyes was hard, since we weren't sure when we'd be able to see them all next. We're hoping we'll be able to take enough time off work to come down for christmas and new years, but it's not for sure yet. Overall, a very successful past few weeks, thanks to our wonderful family and friends! I especially want to thank my mom and grandma for all the effort they put into organizing everything, I couldn't have done it without you!!

another cat post

Can I just take a moment and tell you how funny my husband and cat are? Seriously I can just sit around and watch them play for hours because they are crazy! Mitch got some hilarious footage of the kitty so he decided to make a video from it. It's titled, Diego the Monster:

Occasionally I also have my funny moments. After becoming irritated with the kitten time and time again as he kept following me in the kitchen and getting underfoot, I finally devised a solution:

ta da! kitty rides in my apron and no longer gets trampled.

it's seriously so pathetic how much he loves it. but whatever works...

ahaha sooo adorable.

Pre-Wedding Catch Up

I've been putting off blogging/journaling about the wedding, but I figure it needs to be done ASAP before I forget everything. So I hope in the next few days to be all caught up with pre-wedding festivities, wedding day, honeymoon, reception, and post-wedding life. So here goes...

The 10 days before the wedding were so, so fun. Thursday the 1st were my bridals, where I felt like a model/princess the whole time. My photographer, Michelle Kemp, is so awesome and I had a blast working with her. After seeing a few sneak -peeks of the bridals I can definitely tell she knows what she's doing- she made me look gorgeous. Based on those pictures alone, Nancy (Mitch's mom) thinks I should be a model to pay our way through school...hahah. I wish...

Thursday was also the day that my family drove in from texas! It was so fun to see everyone and play! And I was so glad Mom was able to be at my bridals, I think she had a blast too. The next 9 days were split between my family and Mitch's. His family rented a cabin in Sundance for the 10 days before the wedding since they had so much family coming to visit. It was so much fun getting to know them better, I felt right at home with them! We spent a lot of time cooking, sharing family stories, and just enjoying the gorgeous view from their back patio of Stewart falls. They had a family reunion which was so nice for them, since they hadn't really gotten together in a long time, and it was a good opportunity for me to meet all of Mitch's extended family. I will say they are about as colorful as the Johnson family, and they take pride in it :D

The cabin!

Family reunion!

Mitch with his brother and nephews. So cute :D

One day for fun, Mitch's brother Paul was awesome and took us up in his plane! We flew through Provo Canyon and just enjoyed the scenery...until he started doing fancy maneuvers- then the Gs hit me. Now I know to a small extent how astronauts feel in those crazy flight simulators!!

the gorgeous view from the plane.

Thursday the 8th I went to the Mt Timpanogos temple to receive my endowments. Later that evening, Mitch's family invited mine up to their cabin where we had Henrietta for dinner and just had fun sitting around talking and getting to know each other. Our families really get along so great, I couldn't be more pleased :) Good thing too, since we'll have all of eternity together :)

Meet Diego

I know that for some reason, a lot of people don't like cats. I think this can be attributed to individual cats' personalities, because some cats can be downright stuck up and angry. From my experience over the past 24 hours though, cats can be awesome pets...if you get the right one. They keep themselves clean, don't pee or poop around on the carpet, play with you, cuddle with you, don't make loud noise, don't need to be walked. Overall, a pretty low-maintenance pet. Just brush them once in a while to make sure they don't shed everywhere and you're good.

Well I don't know who came up with the idea originally, but lately Mitch and I have been toying with the idea of getting a kitten. For one thing, it's wayyy easier upkeep than a dog, especially in an apartment. Also, I always wanted one as a kid, but we never could because my dad was really allergic (at least, that's what my mom always told me :D). I intended to wait a while before we got a pet, just because I figured we had enough on our plate right now, but then it occurred to me that it would solve one of my main problems- the fact that I hate sleeping alone while Mitch is at work all hours of the night. Once I realized that, I couldn't get the idea out of my head, and we started looking online for kittens.

(If you are planning to get a cheap pet, KSL is the way to go. Literally every other posting we saw was for free kittens. The trick is to find the ones that are closest to you, have pictures, and have good descriptions of their personalities.)

We finally found a family in orem that was trying to get rid of their 5 kittens. They were raised with their 6 young children who were constantly holding (and harassing) them, so we were told they were all extremely cuddly and playful, which was important to me. If there's one thing I hate, it's a sullen, don't-touch-me cat. And so we went to pick one out. "Cinnamon" as they called him, was the prettiest one of the bunch, I thought, and according to the mom, the most playful and cuddly. This was made pretty apparent to us in the first 5 minutes of knowing him, when he passed out in my lap on the way home in the car.

We went to the store and got most of his necessities, including food bowls, food, super fancy litter box, brush, scratching post, and a chase toy. We took him home and he loves playing with his new toys already.

An hour later, and he was out like a light.

We settled on the name Diego, because... well because children's movies are always at the forefront of my mind, and it seemed to match his feisty personality... also when he runs it reminds me of a cougar or tiger, with his long loping strides.

The Best Of

For those of you who weren't aware, I registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond (like every other bride on the planet) for my wedding. Well I am here to tell you, after countless hours of shopping and spending all my free money and trying all of my new gadgets (which I might add was so, so fun, I would highly recommend it), which products are worth trying. Most of these things I've had for about 2 weeks and have already used with much success. Probably it's pretty nerdy of me to compile a list like this, but lately I have been just oh-so-enthusiastic about anything and everything to do with my new married life, including these fun little "toys", that I wanted to share!

The Incredible Ice Cream Scoop by Wilton - $7.99

They aren't lying- this ice cream scoop is truly incredible. And trust me, coming from an ice cream connoisseur like me, that's saying a lot :D For a whole review on this product, check out the consumer report here.

Wilton Indulgence 100-piece Cookie Cutter Set - $9.99

10 dollars. 10 dollars for all 26 letters of the alphabet. numbers 0-9. shapes for every occasion, sport, holiday, and animal. 100 color-coded cookie cutters, all in a convenient portable storage bucket. At 10 cents a cookie cutter, that's a steal.

The Original Extra-Large Dish Drying Mat - $7.99
So sad that I would find something like this so exciting, but I guess that's what happens when you get married and become all wife-y...you get super excited about home-y things that make your chores and daily living easier. The Bed, Bath and Beyond summary says it all:

"The Original™ Dish Drying Mat is the new solution to the age old tradition of placing dish towels on the counter when hand washing pots, pans, dishes, and glassware. The unique, laminated design combines a thin layer of foam between two layers of high quality, super absorbent microfiber that holds four times its weight in water. It cushions delicate dishes and stemware, and can also be used under a dish drying rack or under counter top appliances to protect from scratches and scuffs. Drying mat folds for easy storage and is machine washable."

Really the only step up from this would be a dishwasher. We'll get there someday.

Fuzzy Wuzzy Microfiber Duster- $5.99ish

With a name like Fuzzy Wuzzy, how could it NOT be awesome? Really this thing is amazing- it picks up dust like no other, AND it's machine washable. They come in all sizes, on extension poles for fans and bookshelves, and in a weird little thingy for cleaning blinds. You can buy these anywhere really, BB and B just happens to carry them.

Zyliss Interlocking Corn Holders (4 pair) - $4.99

I personally think the most annoying thing about the corn holders we had growing up was that they were kind of smallish and thus, got lost easily/fell down the disposal, and then you always ended up with a corn holder who didn't have a buddy. These corn holders are AWESOME. They are quite a bit bigger than your typical corn holders so they are easier to use, and then after washing you can interlock them with their buddy to make storing easier, and no one gets lost! What a concept.

Well what are you waiting for?? Happy shopping :D
